Professional Experience

Graduate Assistant, English Department, Writing and Communication Center, ETSU, 2002-2003

Offered individual conferencing to beginning, intermediate, and advanced writers and speakers on campus. Provided assistance to students, faculty, and staff at all stages of the communication process: from generating writing topics, researching with library and Internet resources, using MLA and APA documentation, strengthening presentation skills, and sharpening lower and higher order writing skills. Acted as a thoughtful and responsive audience during tutoring sessions by helping to guide students with questions and coaching so that they might identify their own problems and errors. Developed the Centers Blackboard page and created HTML documents for student reference.

 

Graduate Assistant, Office of Student Life and Leadership, ETSU, 2001-2002

Coordinator of the America Reads Challenge program. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of literacy tutors. Maintained pre- and post- testing records of 300 tutees. Reviewed tutor performances via record log and follow up visits. Recruited new tutors. Created and maintained partnerships with local school guidance counselors and teachers. Coordinated and lectured at bi-monthly training sessions designed to assist tutors working with elementary school aged children.
